Music is something that everybody loves but we also have our own type of music that we listen to. Each week we spent at least 30 hours listening to our favorite music.

Music has power over our lives. Listening to music has many effects on us and we find our spirits lifted up, we experience relief from stress, and we simply enjoy singing with our favorite artists as we listen to the music that they play. When it comes to listening to music, all of us have our own preferences. Today, we have rap music which is the newest music genre which has become the most popular music genre today. A few decades ago, in the 60s and 70s, rap music was born in New York. This relatively new genre of music has become the most popular genre among music fans today. This type of music features a high rate of beats per minutes. The manner of speech in this type of music is also very fast. Rhyming and wordplay is used in rap and this makes it a really interesting type of music. Today you can find many popular rappers. The offshoots of this type of music include gangster rap, mumble rap, dirty rap and more.

The most popular genre for many years was rock music, long before rap become very popular. The origin of rock music, its sounds and rhythms is African music. In the 50s and 60s, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry included elements of blues, gospel, and soul music to give rock its signature sound in those days. Now, rock is not longer drum-centric but it is primarily guitar-driven.

Pop or popular music is a combination of styles and genres which are designed to be fun, upbeat and palatable to a wider audience. The characteristics of pop songs is that they are usually short, intentionally repetitive and rely on a chorus.

Heavy metal is a very misunderstood genre. People take it to be loud, angry noise. But in reality its roots come from blues and jazz. To create the darker, heavier sound, these musicians use the tritone known as the devil’s chords. Listeners of every type of music can have something offered by heavy metal. Some elements of disco and pop music are included into some metal music. Others incorporate jazz fusion, classical, and rock elements into their style of metal.

We also have punk music that is on the other side of pop and rock. It is passionate guitar-driven music with fast beats per minute. It is intentionally off-putting and deliberately counter culture.
